Why all the Hormone-Related Conditions in Women?
Q: As a holistic doctor, what is your take on why it seems the last couple generations of women have been having their periods earlier and earlier, and there seems to be more endometriosis, fibroids, cancers, etc. Something just seems wrong or off.
A: Over the last 26 years, I have seen in my clinical practice precisely what you are describing. There seems to be almost an epidemic of hormone-related conditions in both women and men. Interestingly, I just gave a lecture to medical providers across North America, titled. “Born and Dying in a Toxic World.” The focus of my talk was how we find some 230+ toxic chemicals in cord blood (the lifeline between mom and developing baby), representing the current health crisis that humanity endures. We routinely find toxins in most children such as phthalate, paraben, and BPA, which are also acknowledged as being endocrine disruptors or mimickers. These substances, widely found in our homes, schools, workplace and food, act like hormones at the cellular level. The point being, the surge of these hormone-like chemicals is contributing to the trend you noted.
I encourage my patients to minimize toxic exposure by avoiding the dirty dozen foods (www.EWG.org), and to pay attention to toxins listed on labels of personal hygiene and make-up products. Also, don’t drink out of plastic water bottles, keep your liver healthy, and make sure you stay well hydrated and eliminate your gastrointestinal tract 2 to 3 times a day.
I also encourage my patients to take organic milk thistle, dandelion and burdock supplements. We must all fortify, protect and purify our bodies for peak performance and ward off the toxicity of modern living.
Peace and Abundant Blessings,
Dr. Chris Meletis, N.D.
