Seasonal Field Crew Associate

Job Summary:
The main purpose of this position is to provide support in all activities related to planting, growing and harvesting annual crops on the OWH farm properties, as directed by the Director of Farm Operations and following all regulatory and safety policies and practices.

Classification: Seasonal Full-time/Hourly (not eligible for OT)

Key Functions/Responsibilities:
    • Follow SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) #100- #199 at all times;

    • Follow good sanitation practices at all times;

    • Follow good safety policies and practices at all times;

    • Assist with tractor work including but not limited to:
      • Transplanting
      • Harvesting
      • Mowing

    • Perform hand/manual work in the field to including but not limited to:
      • Harvesting plant material
      • Rock removal
      • Plant clipping
      • Weeding with hand tools (hoes, shovels, rakes, clippers)
      • Some use of small engine devices for plant maintenance (i.e. blowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, etc.)
      • Fence repair and installation

    • Assist with Herb Washing and Drying:
      • Wash line quality control and cleaning
      • Loading/ unloading of wash line
      • Temperature regulation and monitoring
      • Loading/unloading of dryers
      • Packaging and labeling dry goods or materials
      • Maintain accurate records – wash line cleaning records, dryer cleaning records, inventory updates, etc.

    • Help with daily cleaning; and with the equipment and maintenance of tools:
      • Trailers, eating areas, Barn, wash line, and other work areas are clean and organized daily
      • Cleaning and organization are assigned and rotated weekly
      • Tools, and collecting racks are washed and stored correctly
      • Compost, trash, & recycling are put in proper receptacles
      • Compost, trash and recycling are emptied 2-3x per week as needed
      • Floors swept
      • Knives, machetes and clippers are maintained and stored correctly
      • Dirty clothes are brought to designated area for washing
      • Doors and gates are closed at the end of the day

    • Special duties as assigned by the Director of Farm Operations or Assistant Farm Manager.

    • Exceptional performers may have opportunities to be trained in the following:
          • Tractor Work
          • Equipment Maintenance and Maintenance record keeping
          • Greenhouse production
          • Irrigation system support


        • Must be reliable and committed to quality work ethic
        • Knowledge of the English language helpful, but not required
        • Ability to do other jobs such as installing and repairing fencing and other heavy work is a plus

        Other Requirements:
        • Must treat others with courtesy and respect at all times
        • Must collaborate with others to work positively and effectively as a team
        • Must be able to work independently at times
        • Must be able to follow all safety policies and practices at all times
        • Must have reliable transportation to and from work
        • Must be on time for beginning of shifts and from breaks
        • Must come prepared to work with proper work attire
        • United States citizenship or permanent resident (Green Card) is required

        Physical Requirements:  Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the work with or without reasonable accommodation, as follows:
        • Stand and walk for long periods of time (8-10 hours/day)
        • Perform repetitive tasks/motions
        • Distinguish colors
        • Have good manual dexterity
        • Have good eye-hand-foot coordination
        • Have clarity of vision:  Near (<20”); Mid (>20”-<20’); Far (>20’)
        • Ability to kneel, crouch, crawl or climb frequently
        • Heavy Work – Exerts up to 100 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. constantly, with or without lifting aids

        Working Conditions:
        • Primarily outdoors
        • Exposure to extreme conditions (hot/cold)
        • Exposure to dust/fumes/gases
        • Exposure to moving mechanical parts
        • Exposure to pollen
        • Operating heavy equipment
        • Working around honeybees and other insects
